With an earnest desire to share my blessings with others,...
With an earnest desire to share my blessings with others, I write this testimony. In the year 1915 I first heard of Christian Science, at a time in my experience when "man's extremity" was "God's opportunity." I was at that time a helpless sufferer and a cripple. My body was drawn out of shape, and one of my lower limbs was about two inches shorter than the other and withered. I had doctored continually, and had consulted physicians of various schools, but none of them gave me any hope of recovery. I also had sulphur spring baths, massage, electrical treatment, and took patent medicines, none of which gave me any relief whatsoever, but like the woman spoken of in the Bible I "rather grew worse."
A stranger, seeing my condition, told me something of Christian Science and what it had done for others. I shall always feel grateful to this person who played the part of the good Samaritan when he saw one in great need. An appointment was made with a Christian Science practitioner, with the result that I asked for treatment. The following day I bought the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and my dear wife and I began the study of Christian Science; and we, indeed, found it the "pearl of great price."
I was healed of the physical trouble in nine weeks with the loving help of Christian Science practitioners, and have been free from that trouble ever since. Two years ago, after I had been a slave to tobacco for over thirty years, both chewing and smoking, the weed became distasteful to me; and I have not touched it since. The desire to drink tea and coffee left me about the same time. All of these were brought about simply by studying the Christian Science literature.
