I should like to give as testimony an experience of mine
I should like to give as testimony an experience of mine. When coming home from town one evening, just as I was about to step upon the sidewalk, a car turned very abruptly at the corner and struck me in the back just above the hip, knocking me down. My head struck the pavement, and the end of the huge car ran over my ankle and dragged me a short distance. The car, which was going at a high rate of speed, stopped as soon as possible; but before anyone reached me I was up. The first thought that came to me was: "No accidents ever happen to the child of God. Then I, as God's child, never fell; it is only the counterfeit that has fallen." It also came to me that if God is omnipotence—all power; omnipresence—all presence; omniaction—all action, then His child expresses all action, and I had better begin to act. From page 393 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy came these words: "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." I at once acted upon this statement of Truth. When some persons came up to me, I was perfectly calm, and although stars were seemingly falling around me, I said, "Take me home, please." The usual suggestions followed: "Better have a doctor; better go and have an examination!" I declined these offers, and said, "No, take me home;" and they did so.
Next day the call came: "Can I do something for you? Will you have an examination?" Still I declined the offers, and said, "I am doing nicely, thank you." That night, after I was alone with God, I turned to Mrs. Eddy's Message to The Mother Church for 1900 and read (p. 6): "There is no imperfection, no lack in the Principle and rules which demonstrate it. Only the demonstrator can mistake or fail in proving its power and divinity." To myself I said, "Now, I am the demonstrator, and I, only, am the one that can possibly fail." I certainly did not fail to demonstrate over the belief in internal injuries, fractured skull, and a broken ankle. At times, for several days, the carnal thought would argue that there were internal injuries, but in a week that argument was entirely silenced, and to-day I am perfectly normal. At times the suggestion of age was also voiced. Again I answered, "There is no age in Truth or Truth's idea."
In the words of Paul, "I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"—in the true idea of God. I am indeed deeply grateful for the understanding of Christian Science which enabled me to prove God's healing presence and power.—(Mrs.) Martha Titus Bennett, Santa Ana, California.
