I am very grateful to God for His presence every day to help us in all our problems. Fourteen years ago, after eight years of treatment by physicians, I decided to dispense with their services, as I had grown steadily worse under their care and would not consent to an operation. I was then very quickly healed of a number of so-called incurable and other diseases, among them valvular heart trouble, Bright's disease, neuralgia, anaemia, fistula, gastritis, and organic trouble for which I was told I must be operated upon, though no hope of recovery was given me.
When Christian Science was first presented to me, while suffering from a two weeks' siege of neuralgia, one evening I became so discouraged that it seemed I had reached the limit of endurance. My husband insisted that I must have a Christian Science practitioner or a physician, so I told him to call a practitioner. Our little daughter began to read to me from a Christian Science Sentinel, and in half an hour I was feeling so much better that I told my husband to call the practitioner and tell her, and to ask her to continue the treatment. At the end of another half hour the pain was entirely gone. I was very grateful, and knew that the help was from God. The next day we obtained "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to study it; in fact, I became so absorbed that I was oblivious of the other ailments, and when in about a month I thought about them they were entirely gone. My husband and our daughter entered into the study of Christian Science as heartily as I. During the ensuing years we have depended on it for all of our needs, which have been adequately met.
Some years ago I cut the end of a finger entirely off. I at once realized the wholeness of God's child and that there are no accidents in Mind; and the bleeding stopped. I went into my room alone to realize the truth, first telling my husband what had happened and asking for help. The realization came so clearly that if it had not been the natural thing to do, Jesus would not have restored the ear of the servant of the high priest, that I went and got the end of the finger and held it in place. Several hours after the accident I sent for some court plaster, cut it in strips, and applied it to hold the piece of flesh in place. I then wrapped it up and went about preparations for dinner. The next week I moved, doing practically all of the packing. In a month I removed the wrappings and could use the finger the same as the others in playing the piano and otherwise.
