The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Stuttgart, Germany (First Church).
Lecturer: Miss Margaret Murney Glenn; introduced by Major-General August Kündinger, who said:—
When Christ Jesus gave humanity his teaching, "Love your enemies," he no doubt signified the most stupendous change in the way of thinking that had ever been demanded of mankind. Only a small group of disciples followed the Master then, and proved their understanding of his words by doing the works that he did. To-day the whole civilized world acknowledges the teachings of Jesus, but, just as two thousand years ago, mankind seems unable to love its enemies. Again Truth is knocking at the door of humanity, and unlocking through Christian Science the understanding of the Master's teaching; and, emanating from the truth of God's allness, a way is being indicated which shows that it is not only requisite to love one's enemies, but perfectly unreasonable to hate them. Again we see, as the result of the understanding of Christian Science, the sick healed and the sinner reformed. I can speak from experience; for I was healed in Christian Science of a chronic complaint, which seemed to sentence me to a lingering illness: I was again given new life.
