Kindness

In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mrs. Eddy says (p. 295), "Kindness in its largest, profoundest sense is goodness." Here we have an inspired definition of that kindness which is so essential to health and happiness. It is well for every working Christian Scientist to pause often and ask himself: Am I expressing true kindness in all my relations to my fellow-men each day, each hour? Are my thoughts as kind as my words and actions may imply?

So much is expected of all who call themselves Christian Scientists—those who declare that the sick are healed, and that all the discords of human existence can be annulled, through the application of God's law, the law of good, always reliable and impartial, those who claim that through spiritualization of thought and consecration of endeavor wonderful results are obtained. All this Christian Scientists know to be true; for thousands have proved beyond doubt that healing has resulted from divine Love's ministrations as revealed in Christian Science.

In order to be a clearer transparency, so that Spirit's healing rays may purify human consciousness, it may be well to turn the searchlight of Truth into our innermost thoughts, and do some mental housecleaning. Let us wipe out apathy and indifference, brighten up alertness and obedience, and bring in new treasures of renewed activity and more unselfed love and kindness.
