I cannot adequately express in words what my heart...
I cannot adequately express in words what my heart feels for the awakening to the truth of Being. I have been lifted from a life of worry, fear, discontentment, to heaven on earth through the study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I have been healed of many discordant physical conditions, such as flat feet, chronic sore throat, and catarrh of the nose; but what I am most grateful for is the mental regeneration through the reading of our textbook that is constantly taking place in my consciousness.
I should like to write of an experience which proved to me conclusively that the omnipresent Christ is omniactive and instantly available for all to utilize. two years ago last June I visited Boston accompanied by my son, a lad then fifteen years of age. We attended The Mother Church that Sunday morning for the first time, and great was our joy for the privilege of being able to enjoy the beautiful service held there. When we left the church, my son suggested that we might take a walk before returning to the hotel, to which I consented. We walked along the main thoroughfare until we reached a very narrow side street, where my son was attracted to a shop where musical instruments were displayed in the window. He lingered there awhile, and I walked on, thinking deeply of the beautiful service of the morning. I suddenly became conscious of someone walking close beside me, and thinking it was my son, I continued to walk on. Almost immediately I became conscious of impending danger, and turning, I saw a stranger walking close beside me, with the unmistakable look of a thief in his eyes. I carried an envelope bag in my hand, and at first the thought came to me that he was trying to steal my bag; but more quickly than I can tell it (in the twinkling of an eye), I reversed the erroneous thought with the truth that God never created a thief, that His man is honest, that man reflecting and representing his creator is pure, uncontaminated, undefiled, as pure and spotless as the source from which he comes. I then declared that God was my Life, and that I lived, moved, and had my being in God. My life was "'hid with Christ in God,'—with Truth in divine Love, where humansense hath not seen man" (Science and Health, p. 325). My son, following me, saw the whole proceedings and said he spoke to me three times before I finally answered him. He said, "Mother, what did you say to that man?" I answered, "I did not utter a word." He said, "You must have spoken to him; for as I came along, it appeared to me as though he was about to attack you one moment, and the next moment he quickly crossed the street and hurried away." I said, "It was unnecessary for me to speak, for my Father knew my need, and supplied it." My protection was at hand because I recognized the omnipresent good, and I feel confident that the man was also healed of the false desire to acquire that to which he was not lawfully entitled; for, as Mrs. Eddy says, "In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all" (Science and Health, p. 206).
Christian Science teaches that Jesus' works were not the result of a supernatural power which he alone possessed, but of the application of divine Principle, through the unerring eternal law of harmony which governs the entire universe, including each child of God. This perfect law of God can know no evil or discord; it is forever operating everywhere, and all that is real and true is in accord with it and governed by it. I could tell of innumerable experiences where the application of Christian Science has restored harmony and joy. I can prove my gratitude to God, our Father, to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, only by living this truth in my daily life.
