Protecting Our Churches

To the heart of the Christian Scientist there is probably nothing dearer than the Church of Christ, Scientist. He understands well that it is through the organized activities of this church, carried on in obedience to the God-inspired, God-given Church Manual, that all that is true is cared for most effectively. It would be well-nigh impossible for him to-day to conceive of a world lacking this organization.

The alert, thoughful Christian Scientist therefore knows that without The Mother Church, the branch churches and societies, the Sunday services, the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, the Board of Education, the Pupils' Associations, the Board of Lectureship, the Committees on Publication, the movement of Christian Science would be in direct jeopardy. Without all these divinely authorized, and regularly and scientifically maintained activities, there could be no assurance of the correct protection and proper promulgation of even the letter of Christian Science. Then what would happen to its demonstration?

Surely there is no Christian Scientist on earth to-day who would imagine for an instant that were he left alone and unprotected by the Church of Christ, Scientist, his present understanding of God and His Christ would be sufficient to carry on the tremendous work required to spread the gospel of Christian Science to all men. Scientists all know how impossible it would be without such safeguarding so to demonstrate the teachings of Christian Science that all sin, disease, and death would be destroyed. Neither is there any group of Christian Scientists to-day who have sufficiently unselfed themselves to be strong enough spiritually to maintain the Cause of Christian Science without its God-established organization.
