I shall appreciate an opportunity to correct any false impressions regarding Mrs. Eddy's advocacy of prohibition and the plarform provisions of the Independent Order of Good Templars on this subject that might have been conveyed by an inaccurate and incomplete quotation from an editorial in The Christian Science Monitor contained in a letter signed "W. C. C.," published in a recent issue of your newspaper. Contrary to the statement of your correspondent, the platform of the Order of Good Templars, of which organization Mrs. Eddy was an active member and ardent supporter, not only included a plank advocating total abstinence, but it also contained a provision specifically prohibiting the manufacture, importation, and sale of all intoxicating liquors. The complete statement of the platform provisions of that order, as given in the Monitor editorial above referred to, reads as follows:

"When Mrs. Eddy joined the Good Templars the platform of this order included the following planks: 'The total abstinence from all intoxicating liquor as a beverage' and 'the absolute prohibition of the manufacture, importaion, and sale of intoxicating liquors for such purposes.' "

The failure of your correspondent to quote that part of the Good Templars' platform which completely refutes his assumption that this order, as well as Mrs. Eddy, advocated total abstinence but not prohibition may have been nothing more than an oversight on his part, yet one can hardly fail to observe that such oversight was especially convenient for his purposes.
