To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big...
"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings;" so writes Mrs. Eddy on the first page of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." How many times this has been proved to me! Mere words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and also to Mrs. Eddy for giving us through her inspired perception this simple, practical, demonstrable truth—Christian Science. To know one's self as a child of God, protected by divine Love and wisdom, and governed by Him, took away all fear.
My seeming difficulties were due to two major operations, and having had chloroform and ether twenty-two times. Fear added to all this had reduced me to a mental and physical wreck, and home conditions were very discordant. Existence was a burden that I would happily have left; and my only relief was morphia, and even stronger drugs at times. Hearing of my trials, a loving friend sent me a copy of The Christian Science Journal, the first two paragraphs of which showed me that my search for something more tangible than materia medica had been rewarded; for here was the living truth. After reading that Journal I was entirely healed of the desire for drugs. Next day Science and Health was brought. After the end of the first week, constipation and fear of my fellows were overcome. Gradually inharmonious conditions, one by one, gave way under the potency of Truth. Then began the dawn of that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding." There were times when we had to apply to a loving practitioner for help with the children, but most times by steadfast reliance on Truth, the constant use of our Leader's textbooks and the Lesson-Sermons, our needs were met. Pneumonia, whooping cough, ptomaine poisoning, cholecystitis, hemorrhages, tumor, empyema, and burns all were healed and resentment was also overcome.
Above all, I am grateful for the spiritual regeneration that comes with daily mental work and earnest study. For the privilege of membership in The Mother Church, as well as in a society; for class teaching; for field work, which is so necessary for our development, I am also very grateful. My daily prayer is to let that Mind be in me "which was also in Christ Jesus," for this will enable me to help others and to further the great and wonderful Science which meets our every need when rightly applied.
