Taught of God

History bears record that the voice of God, coming to the awakened consciousness, removes oppression and brings to earth justice and equity. Some have named this faculty conscience, believing that through it divinity is discerned. George Washington wrote in his diary this admonition: "Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire, called conscience." But it would seem that what often passes for conscience does not partake of the celestial or divine understanding: it is rather the result of human reason, mere personal opinion, approval, or disapproval, tinctured with self-will, which is always prejudiced; and prejudice is a foe to right thinking. The voice of God is, however, a "celestial fire;" and it cannot be quenched. It is the leaven of Truth working in human consciousness, where it will continue to work, until the words of the prophet Jeremiah are fulfilled, "For they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them."

Thought must be spiritualized to hear the voice of Spirit, and Jesus taught us how best to do this. As we put aside material selfhood we shall truly seek the kingdom of God and correctly "search the scriptures": then mere human thinking will be stilled, and we shall commune with the Great I AM. We shall understand and know that we are living in His presence and are reflecting His goodness and love.
