On page 419 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "Meet every adverse circumstance as its master. Observe mind instead of body, lest aught unfit for development enter thought. Think less of material conditions and more of spiritual." These words have been of inestimable value to the writer in pointing out that seeming obstacles must be met squarely and overcome—not worked around and ignored.

My unceasing gratitude goes out to her who by the spirituality of her life was able to give us this stately truth.

Although I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical help, yet I have experienced innumerable healings. As a matter of fact, the study was not started through a definite decision to investigate this teaching, but I was led to it at a time when seemingly facing black chaos in a physical, financial, and mental way.

About three and a half years ago, while I was living in a city not far distant, circumstances arose which seemed to me to remove every incentive to continue the struggle for health and happiness. I had long been subject to a supposedly incurable condition of the nerves, and had practically given up hope of finding a physician or medicine which could aid me in any degree whatsoever.

The religion of my childhood had ceased to interest me, and in a desperate hope of achieving at least content, which I believed could be gained by a change of environment, I took a trip of two thousand miles, thinking to run away from my troubles. After several months in this western metropolis, at a time when my funds were entirely depleted, with no possibility of securing a place of employment, no friends to call upon even should I have desired to do so, and in a state of mind bordering upon insanity, I was divinely led to a position which later brought me into contact with an earnest Christian Science worker who let her light shine. My gratitude goes out to this beloved practitioner, whose patience and love in meeting the bitterness and skepticism manifested by me at this time were nothing short of inspired.

For several years constipation had been a constant fear and a seeming reality. This condition disappeared and has never since appeared. I have had healings of fever, headaches, burns, accident, and have been aided wonderfully in overcoming a chronic belief of lack of supply. Christian Science has shown me a new God—a heavenly Father who knows we have need of these things; and my progress on the road to Spirit is always commensurate with my willingness to unsee the reality of matter.

Mere words cannot express my unbounded gratitude to Christian Science—for the literature, the church services, the protection of The Mother Church Manual—and to the practitioners in the field who have always so lovingly responded to my call for help; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; also for the privilege of assisting in a small way with the literature distribution work. I give this testimony in the hope that it may benefit some one, as I have been benefited by reading the testimonies of others.
