We have read with great interest and appreciation the article, "Christianity and Christian Science," by a clergyman in your recent issue. In the article the writer says, "We think, however, that all Christian Scientists will admit that their beliefs strike at the very foundations of Christianity." The teachings of Christian Science in no way depart from those of Christ Jesus. On page 21 of her work, "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy writes, "As the ages advance in spirituality, Christian Science will be seen to depart from the trend of other Christian denominations in no wise except by increase of spirituality." Christian Science starts from the premise that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and in reasoning never departs from that premise. On page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit."

Christian Science does not "revive the old dualism of matter and spirit which regarded matter as wholly evil." On the contrary, it teaches that since nothing exists apart from God and His creation, evil is unreal in the sense that it is not of God, the only creator. The apprehension of this truth of being will restore the diseased body to its normal action, and set the sinner free from sin; will make one better in every way, showing how he can, little by little, transform his whole life into one in complete accord with the example set by our Master. In Christian Science, "Principle" is one of the synonymous terms used for God.
