It has been my great privilege to have had Christian Science...

It has been my great privilege to have had Christian Science in our home since my early childhood; but not until I had a family of my own did I realize fully the tremendous blessing that Christian Science is to a growing family, not only as a protection against disease, but as a demonstrable truth, which eliminates sickness and discord of every nature.

We have had two very beautiful demonstrations that may be of interest to others. The first was the healing of my husband during the war, when, suffering with pneumonia, he was forced to enter an army hospital at Camp Grant, Illinois. Although the doctors and nurses held out no hope of his recovery, and had given him up, he was healed through Christian Science treatment, much to their surprise.

The second instance was the healing of our youngest child, a boy not five years old at the time. We were traveling from San Francisco to New York by automobile when the little fellow awakened on the third day with fever. In the confusion and hurry incident to packing and starting on our way, slight heed was paid to the fever, other than a general denial of error, until later in the morning, when we realized that it had grown worse. There was no opportunity to stop our journey for quiet reading or study, and when we reached Mojave, in the desert, the lad was delirious. We immediately sent a telegram to a practitioner in San Francisco for treatment, and started out again across the desert to Barstow, leaving every human being and habitation behind us, as there was no place to stay in Mojave other than the railroad station. At seven o'clock that night we were able to put the child to bed after traveling two hundred and fourteen miles that day. For a time he seemed better, but at ten o'clock he was worse, and we thought it best to talk to the practitioner by long distance telephone. It took two hours to get the telephone connection, and in the meantime the little fellow was seized with convulsions. These attacks grew lighter and less frequent after talking with the practitioner, and at four o'clock in the morning he fell asleep. We continued to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, aloud most of the night. At six o'clock that morning the child wakened with the most beautiful smile—absolutely and completely healed. Although we stayed in Barstow one day, he was able to continue the journey the next day, and travel with us seventeen consecutive days, riding, with but one exception, fifteen and sixteen hours a day.
