More than five years ago Christian Science healed me when it seemed as if I stood on the very edge of the grave. I had experienced many diseases, undergone several serious surgical operations, and could not remember a time when I was strong and well. From early childhood a harassing cough was my constant companion during the winter months, and this continued at intervals in later life, causing me many sleepless nights and days of exhaustion.

I had known of Christian Science many years previous to my healing, and had attended the services of a little group of students in the town which was then my home. I did not, however, become interested at that time. Again, a few years previous to my healing, I sought the help of a practitioner for a member of the family who was suffering from a nervous breakdown, our physician seeming unable to help him. But after a few weeks' treatment we returned to materia medica.

I know now that we were too impatient, and did not give Christian Science an equal chance with material remedies; but I am sure that the seed which was sown bore fruit in after years and led to my turning to Christian Science when all else failed. Worry and overwork, following a terrible illness with Spanish influenza, seemed to bring about a complication of old troubles, the most frightful of which were sinking spells with a sense of heart trouble, suffocation, and so on.
