The world is feeling, in increasing measure, the need of...
La Nouvelle Revue
The world is feeling, in increasing measure, the need of finding spiritual help and support outside of all that is material. Religion, as it is taught in many of the churches, has not met this need. Therefore mankind is turning more and more to Christian Science. Christian Science is "the law of God, the law of good" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1), and the Supreme Being is the divine Principle thereof. "Yes," some will say, "but of what use is that to us? Can we apply this Science to the problems of our daily living? Does this Supreme Being care about the woes of mankind?" Yes, as we learn the true nature of God and of man, and as we learn how to apply the Principle of Christian Science, we are able to solve our problems. Jesus, our Master, gave us the rule: To love God supremely and our neighbor as ourselves.
To love God is to love good, to love infinite Love, perfect and eternal Life, to love Truth. Such is the God revealed to us by Christian Science. God is infinitely good; He is good everywhere, and all the time. All that He has created is good like Himself. Whoever desires to use this Science to avail himself of the blessings which divine Love bestows on all its children, must begin by expecting good, health, happiness. Know that you are encompassed by the divine presence, that there is nothing to fear. Know that the divine Mind directs all in the universe and that you can trust this leading to show you the way. Know, if you are ill, that God, divine Love, will heal you, and you will even now feel His presence. This Love destroys hate. The world needs to know this to-day. This Love is the Father and Mother of all. In reality there are not a multitude of nations and tongues. There is one nation, one family, one Church. God is King; God is divine Principle. All proceeds from Him, depends on Him. He is All-in-all. The sun shines on the wicked and on the good. God, divine Principle, loves all. Sooner or later the wicked feel the warmth of this love and leave their wickedness. "We love him, because he first loved us."
An American woman, Mary Baker Eddy, discovered and founded Christian Science. She was dying as the result of an accident when she turned to God and was instantaneously healed. She felt it was not a miracle; she discerned in her healing the operation of a divine and ever operative law. She understood that Jesus had accomplished his marvelous works through this law. Henceforth she devoted her life to discovering this law, and she set forth the rules for its demonstration in a book entitled, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book teaches all who study it how to heal themselves and others through divine power alone. In his book, "The Ant-Men," which appeared in La Nouvelle Revue, Monsieur de Morsier said that Mrs. Eddy had copied the writings of a certain American mystic named Grimby. He made a mistake in the name; he meant Quimby. Now Quimby was a hypnotist to whom Mrs. Eddy had turned for help long before she discovered Christian Science. This Quimby claimed to heal through electricity. Christian Science employs no material remedies; its healing is based wholly on the power of divine Mind, on Truth. There is therefore no similarity between Quimby's method and that of Christian Science.
