The Lectures
Brooklyn, New York (Fourth Church).
Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by John W. Holstead, who said:—
Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, said in her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 34), "Follow your Leader only so far as she follows Christ." By studying the Bible we find that Jesus the Christ overcame every discordant condition—sin, disease, and death—by turning to God, his heavenly Father, for help and guidance. By taking Christ Jesus as their ideal, and following his example of relying entirely upon God for help, many Christian Scientists have been healed of so-called incurable diseases, some have been lifted out of poverty and lack, and others have been able to rise above sorrow and loss. The last mentioned was my personal experience, when I, through the study of Christian Science, turned to God for help. I was in a very sorrowful, discouraged mental state, but Christian Science gave me a better and brighter viewpoint, for which I am most grateful. So we find that by following the precepts of Christian Science we are following the example of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and are thereby living in obedience to the will of God, which brings healing and blessing.
