The days of my young girlhood were spent in semi-invalid...
The days of my young girlhood were spent in semi-invalid discomfort. At twelve years of age I began to have what the doctors called attacks of appendicitis, which were extremely acute. I had these attacks regularly until, at eighteen, I underwent an operation. I thought my troubles would be ended then, but after the operation I continued in ill health, and finally was forced to leave school.
About this time my father became very ill, and a friend interested our family in Christian Science sufficiently so that we sought help of a practitioner. The practitioner called upon us and left the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I began to read the book, and became so engrossed that I continued to read it almost steadily for four days. At the end of those days I realized that I was healed. I do not know when the healing took place. All at once it dawned upon my awakened sense that I no longer felt the aches, pains, and soreness that had been with me so many years.
That experience was about seventeen years ago. I have never had a return of the trouble since. During these years I, as well as the rest of my family, have had many proofs of God's constant care. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for these continued blessings; therefore I sincerely hope by my works to prove my appreciation and gratefulness for this never failing Christ, Truth, that means so much to me. Through Christian Science alone I have been changed from a sick, useless girl to a realization of my God-given freedom, which has enabled me to be a worker in the vineyard. I am grateful to God for His unbounded goodness to me, and also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her great purity of thought and noble life, which she spent for humanity's sake. My daily prayer is that I may be a better Christian Scientist and worthy of the name.—(Mrs.) Louise H. Collett, West Newton, Massachusetts.
