Christian Science came to me at a time of great need
Christian Science came to me at a time of great need. Years of wrong thinking had brought me to the end of my resources. I was constantly ill, and very unhappy. Mentally, morally, and physically I was an easy prey to error and could find no way of escape. What is called orthodox religion left me face to face with mystery and illogical conclusions, unconvinced, unsaved, and starving for practical good. I had some faith in God, and certain vague ideals gave me glimpses of comfort; but how to apply the one or the other I knew not.
Then, one day, I was given a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I could not understand this book, and in my blindness criticized its contents. For a year it lay neglected and unrecognized in my home; but, as troubles increased, it gradually dawned on me that faults of character and erroneous thinking were at the root of my suffering, for which mental healing could be the only cure.
Then it was that I turned unreservedly to the great Physician,—to Life, Truth, and Love, as revealed in the Bible and in the teachings of Christian Science. My progress was slow, and many months passed before I understood that it was taking place; but I can thank God to-day that it has been sure and steady. For over twelve years I have had no remedy but Christian Science. During that time I have never been one hour in bed, except for rest at night, and have only once been unable to perform anything I had undertaken to do.
