After many years of severe illness I turned to Christian Science
After many years of severe illness I turned to Christian Science. I had suffered for about two years from ulcers of the stomach, severe indigestion, and hemorrhoids. During thirty years I had suffered very often from headaches, which had increased in strength. Often I had to remain in a dark room in bed for two weeks at a time, taking scarcely any food and using strong narcotics. I had consulted several physicians, obeyed strictly their prescriptions about careful dieting, and went often to sanitariums, but without any result. I suffered intense pain in my head and stomach, and was exhausted and depressed. Anxiety and melancholy seemed to govern me, and I was unable to attend to my duties at home. I often prayed to God for release from this life, which seemed to be a burden to myself and those dear to me.
In October, 1920, Christian Science came to me. I paid a visit to a practitioner, who explained Christian Science to me in such a way that I understood it to be the truth which makes free. Up to that day I had not been able to walk five minutes without being exhausted; but after leaving her I walked twenty minutes in joy and freedom. I felt confidence and knew I had found God. I asked for Christian Science treatment, which was lovingly given, and began at once to study Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other authorized Christian Science literature. In a very short time I was healed of the disease in the stomach and of hemorrhoids. Immediately I gave up all dieting, and was able to eat any kind of food without any trouble. The headaches assumed from the beginning of the treatments a much milder form, and soon afterwards I was healed of this trouble.
During these years there have been many other proofs of God's love and power in our large family. We have not had any help from materia medica since October, 1920, as all our problems have been solved through Christian Science. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God, not only for the physical healings, but still more for the spiritual understanding of the Bible through its interpreter, Science and Health.
