Milngavie & Bearsden Herald
In a recent issue appears a review of a book entitled "Christian Science Expounded and Exposed" by the late Rev. J. Moffat Logan. This book is a travesty of the teaching and practice of Christian Science; the so-called facts in the book were gleaned from the enemies of Mrs. Eddy, and they are the expression of prejudice and willful misinterpretation. Mrs. Eddy was a humble follower of Christ Jesus; she simply claimed to have discovered in Christian Science the divine Principle which underlay the works of the prophets, Jesus, his disciples, and the early Christians. Christian Science is the divine philosophy of Jesus, and is not antiScriptural or blasphemous; neither was it "concocted from the teaching of others," as the critic avers. At the time Mr. Logan delivered these lectures he was answered in the public press by a representative of the Christian Science movement, and his false statements and misrepresentations were entirely refuted. Prejudice had been allowed to destroy all sense of proportion and fairness. Those really seeking the truth about Mrs. Eddy and her movement will not find it in Mr. Logan's book, but in the writings of Mrs. Eddy herself, and in the only authorized biography of the Leader of the Christian Science movement, "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur.
