The Bible was a closed book to me before I began the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had tried to understand its meaning as a child in Sunday school, and was always a regular attendant at church. Still I was ill a great part of the time and under a doctor's care, until Christian Science found me. I then studied Science and Health many hours each day with a sincere desire to impart the truth it contained to a dear member of my family who had great need of healing. While making this unquestioning search with deep desire to help him, I received my first healing. Feeling such freedom and comfort I went to a practitioner and asked her how it could be, and her answer was that by reading the book my consciousness had been uplifted.
Later I was healed of grief in one treatment. I then began to apply the understanding which gradually came to me in healing my little children and in solving their school problems. My neighbors and friends came for healing. Now these two children are grown up, and are still receiving the blessings of Christian Science, free from the contamination of the world's means of healing; for which I am very grateful.
I am perfectly healed of all the phases of disease which tormented me, and they were many. I have been healed of hay fever and of prolonged colds; also of two internal difficulties, which the doctors claimed could be helped only by operations. I have also been healed of sore and troublesome feet; and one of the most wonderful demonstrations has been of abundance of hair when the false hair was laid off. On two occasions I was healed of acute deafness. Mrs. Eddy says on page 78 of Science and Health: "Spirit blesses man, but man cannot 'tell whence it cometh.' By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science." I can never cease to be grateful for having been drawn nearer to God through a spiritual sense of being, which has brought to me the sweet sense of spiritual life, the certain sense that God is Love, and a deep desire to help all mankind to know this.
