I came into Christian Science through several wonderful...

I came into Christian Science through several wonderful healings. We tried many doctors, in many cities, but they could give me no relief. I suffered for twenty-five years from stomach trouble; and with this I had chronic constipation, also several other diseases, one a severe pain in the right side. Five doctors in this city were called in; and the last one, after giving me a more thorough examination than the others, said: "There is no use in your taking medicine; it will do you no good. You must go to the hospital at once and have an operation." I remonstrated; but he urged me to take his advice. That thought, and the fear which manifested itself in consequence, brought on severe nervous chills. I became so weak from lack of nourishment (which the stomach could not retain), sleeplessness, and fear that breathing seemed difficult.

Finally, one afternoon, in trying to make up my mind to have the operation and grieving very much, I said to my husband: "I want you to take me to the hospital at once; and if I do not survive, I shall be better dead, as I cannot stand this any longer." He replied that it was not necessary for me to go to the hospital or have an operation either. He said there were other means, and if I would go to a Christian Science practitioner, he would take me right over. I told him I did not care what he did, if he would but take me out of the house at once, while I was in the humor. Twenty minutes later, we were in the practitioner's waiting room, and found several people there. As my turn came, I was asked to step into the private office. There were very few words said at that time. I wondered why; but now I know. Thank God for the instantaneous healing of the stomach which resulted! At the time we did not realize that a healing had taken place. When we came out, a great sigh of relief came over me. I remarked to my husband how much better I felt, and he suggested that we take a walk. In one hour, I told him I was very hungry. This pleased him very much; so we returned home and he prepared dinner. I could hardly wait; and how I did enjoy that meal! Previous to this I could not retain water, as it would distress me very much. All the other difficulties have been overcome, and now I am happy and well.

How grateful my husband and I are for this wonderful truth! Words can never express our gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and for the many kind words from the practitioner.
