Since my family and I became students of Christian Science...

Since my family and I became students of Christian Science we have had a great many benefits from it. We had gone to Christian Science church services for some time, but did not become members until we had a wonderful healing; and then we realized what a wonderful thing it was to know the truth.

In 1919 I was stricken with what the physicians called the sleeping influenza. It was one of the first cases in this city, and the physician hardly knew what it was. I came home from my place of employment on Thursday evening feeling very sick. I went to bed and went to sleep; and my folks were unable to awaken me all day Friday, all Friday night, and all day Saturday. They became very much alarmed, and called the family physician, who came immediately and pronounced me a very sick man. He said that I would either have brain fever, spinal meningitis, or a stroke which would affect the brain. He also said he would send a trained nurse for the night; that he thought everything would be over by morning; that nothing could be done.

My daughter called a friend who was a Christian Scientist, and asked her if she would not come out and stay with us. She came, and brought a practitioner with her. The practitioner took charge of me, and the friend took charge of my wife, who seemed filled with fear. At the end of one hour and a half I had regained consciousness, knew all my family, and also recognized the practitioner, who at that time was almost a stranger to me. My wife then called the physician, and told him that we should not need him and that we should not need the nurse either. The physician took it for granted that I had passed on, and was very much surprised when he was advised on the contrary that I was very much alive. At the end of five days I was out in the yard making a garden; and at the end of two weeks I was back at work, just as well as ever.
