Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1923

For Western Australia.

It is very interesting to note the change of thought with regard to spiritual healing in the different church journals and papers. In all of them there are articles stressing the great necessity of fulfilling Jesus' command to heal the sick. One paper a year ago was writing strong articles against any form of healing, except medical; to-day that paper is filled with admonitions to its church members to follow Christ and heal the sick.

In several instances sermons have been preached against Christian Science. The Christian Science Sentinel of May 20, 1922, was found most helpful to send to these ministers, as it contained a very fine sermon reprinted from the Darien (Connecticut) Review, on "Why Does Christian Science Succeed?" by an Episcopalian clergyman. One clergyman who, two years ago, preached a sermon against Christian Science, said recently from his pulpit that "they had to thank Christian Science for awakening the churches to spiritual healing, and that Christian Science healed every form of disease." Another clergyman spoke of "the triumphant march of Christian Science." In several sermons clergymen have spoken kindly of Christian Science.
