Truth Ever Present to Help

In whatsoever difficulty the Christian Scientist may find himself he knows that the remedy lies ever at hand. The difficulty may be that of disease, lack, or any other evil condition: whatever its nature, it can be met and overcome by the understanding of God, divine Principle. The Christian Scientist can say with the Psalmist in very surety, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Now the assurance with which the Christian Scientist is inspired is no shallow sentiment, for it is based on absolute knowledge. Altogether beyond the narrow limitations of material sense lies the truth about God, realizable through spiritual sense alone; and this truth, brought to light through Christian Science, is now his in the degree of his understanding of it, to be demonstrated in the destruction of all unlike good. The world in general may as yet be but feebly discerning what the discovery of Christian Science means to it; but those who are practicing its teachings are becoming more and more alive to the fact that Christian Science is gradually but surely altering human thought along every line of its activity. The result is that erroneous beliefs, whatever their supposititious form, are more readily destroyed through spiritual means than they formerly were.

Human beliefs vary as the moods of the restless sea, but the truth about God never changes. To this truth men can turn at all times, knowing that it remains unalterable, eternally fixed, altogether reliable, because God is perfect Being. Suppose some one to be suffering from sickness; how should he approach God, or Truth, to be healed? He does not plead with God as with a mortal to relieve him of his distress. He allows his thought to rest on the truth about God, including His perfect creation, man; he affirms the truth that God is all-inclusive Being, holding man safely forever in His divine consciousness; he declares the fact of man's spiritual nature, altogether apart and free from materiality; he holds firmly, and with calm assurance, to these and other truths until the realization of perfect being comes to him: then he is free. If any one is skeptical of the healing power of divine Science, let him in humility learn of God and put his understanding to the test, and he will prove for himself the power of Truth to heal.
