Christian Science healing is purely spiritual in purpose...
Daily Telegraph
Christian Science healing is purely spiritual in purpose and method. One seeking its beneficent influence, irrespective of the nature of the physical disorder needing cure, is healed as a result of the understanding of God, of spiritual law, and of man's relationship to his Maker. Furthermore, healings are accomplished in Christian Science as the result of God's power and constant willingness to reveal Himself—to those who truly repent—as the God of love, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." The effect of this Science, as applied to the healing of any discordant condition, is to spiritualize consciousness by enjoining the needy one to seek first "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;" with a result that the Master's divine promise is fulfilled, "And all these things shall be added unto you." The Christian Science method of healing conforms strictly with the Master's teachings and practice. Christian Scientists endeavor to carry on their work effectively, to attract no undue attention, and to obviate the necessity for excitement. This unobtrusive method of working is agreed upon as proper by many other Christians. Belief that physical healing should be accomplished through prayer is finding ready acquiescene with an ever increasing multitude of Christian people of virtually every denomination. That such healing is accomplished constantly, quietly, consistently, and effectually by thousands of spirituallyminded men and women to-day is irrefutable—and this through a scientific understanding of Christ Jesus' promise and a desire to practice his teachings. "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, clearly and obediently saw the necessity of conforming strictly to Bible authority and teaching. Thus she placed the healing of sin paramount in purpose and effort as the work of Christian Science and Christian Scientists. Accordingly, Mrs. Eddy writes on pages 2 and 3 of her book "Rudimental Divine Science": "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness. The emphatic purpose of Christian Science is the healing of sin; and this task, sometimes, may be harder than the cure of disease; because, while mortals love to sin, they do not love to be sick. Hence their comparative acquiescence in your endeavors to heal them of bodily ills, and their obstinate resistance to all efforts to save them from sin through Christ, spiritual Truth and Love, which redeem them, and become their Saviour, through the flesh, from the flesh,—the material world and evil."
