Know God

Jesus taught the people about God, the unseen God; and to those who received his teaching, he gave the power to become the sons of God. In one of his discourses in the temple he told his hearers how he taught. "I do nothing of myself," he said, "but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things." Those who accepted the truth began to enter into the kingdom of heaven; and at once became active in helping others to enter.

As we study Jesus' words, we find them pregnant with this one theme: Know God. He thought, talked, cared for, and lived for nothing else than to convey this message to mankind. He knew God; and he consciously dwelt in the kingdom of heaven. So, he spoke with authority. His sayings are more generally understood to-day than when they were first spoken.

Our dear teacher, Mrs. Eddy, followed in the footsteps of Jesus, with a life of wonderful consecration to the great revelation that was given to her. We read in her book, "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 350), "My life, consecrated to humanity through nameless suffering and sacrifice, furnishes its own proof of my practice." Blessed indeed are those who have heard the word of Truth as revealed in Christian Science, and have caught a glimpse of this light, which will finally flood the universe with its radiance. If we have this new-old love for God and our fellow-men, it will shine through us and reach others, as truly as the light passes through the windowpane. In Christian Science one cannot be an intermittent worker. One must press steadily on through evil and good report, if he would progress and reach perfection. Self-ease, self-love, and self-gratification may ask: Why do you work so earnestly? Are you not foolish to take so little time for yourself? Truth answers: Know God, and thus enter the kingdom of heaven.
