In appreciation of the merciful and just ministration...
In appreciation of the merciful and just ministration of Christian Science, I gratefully submit the following testimony. In the year 1917 a malignant growth appeared on the lower lip, which gave me much trouble, in eating my meals, in pain, sleeplessness, and so on. Everybody could see it, and everybody prescribed a remedy. Being an engineer and subject to the regulations of the railroad company, I went the usual route in regard to their rules. I consulted a physician, who recommended me to a specialist on skin diseases. The growth was called a malignant cancer, caused by nicotine poisoning, as a hard-stemmed pipe had always accompanied me in my daily task. An operation was prescribed, which was liable to be very disfiguring. The outlook was not very pleasant; and, in addition to this, the operation was not a guaranteed cure.
My mother, who is a student of Christian Science, begged me to consult a practitioner. I did so, and treatment was begun. I kept up my daily runs for a time. The disease, however, seemed to increase. I was asked to stop work, pay more frequent visits to the practitioner, and give a closer study to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Obedience was in order. Within fourteen days, after a good night's sleep, I found the entire growth extracted, lying on my pillow. I tied my handkerchief over my mouth and went to the practitioner's office, relieved, but somewhat alarmed about the cavity. The discharge stopped. I was told Truth had extracted the growth, and as Truth fills all space I need have no fear. Only clean linen cloths were kept on the wound. I returned to work in a short time. The entire cavity filled in, and my lip resumed its normal shape. Nearly six years have passed, and there is no sign of return; and there is no scar.
