Christian Science has nothing whatever to do with...

Somerset County Herald

Christian Science has nothing whatever to do with hypnotism or mental suggestion. Hypnotism is induced by the despotic control of one so-called human will or mind over another. Mental suggestion is the belief of the transference of such mind or will, and may at times be willful, or the autosuggestion of the individual, or even the mass delusion or suggestion of several so-called mortal minds. Hypnotism involves or implies a knowledge of evil. On the other hand, the practice of Christian Science is based entirely on the knowledge of God, good, through the operation of divine Mind. This was the Mind that was in Christ Jesus, who said, "Not my will, but thine, be done." His healing works were not done by the process of hypnotic control, nor by the subtle suggestion of the exorcist; but by awaking in those who came to be healed the consciousness of their true birthright of spiritual perfection, wholeness, or freedom from sin or disease as sons of God—"our Father." On this basis alone are the genuine cures of Christian Science founded. The human or carnal mind or will is "put off" for the Mind of Christ. This confers the spiritual understanding of the law of God, good, which heals and saves.
