I wish to add my experience in grateful acknowledgment...

I wish to add my experience in grateful acknowledgment of the blessings Christian Science has brought to me. I awoke one morning to find it was impossible for me to get out of bed. Upon appealing to the medical fraternity, I was told I had sciatica. I tried practically all the schools of medicine, calling in five doctors in less than six months. They not only were unable to afford me any relief, but held out very little hope of an ultimate cure, although I am sure they were sincere and tried to do their very best for me. The prospect for the future indeed looked hopeless. I was out of employment, and on account of my physical condition could not have accepted a position had one been offered me. My wife was ill; we were without funds, and were borrowing money to meet our current expenses.

This was my condition when Christian Science was brought to my notice. I had always been very bitter toward and abusive of what I thought Christian Science to be; and it was with much skepticism that I allowed myself to see a Christian Science practitioner. The one to whom I applied explained to me the truth about God and man's relation to Him, substantiating his remarks by references from the Bible. The concept thus presented was a radically different one from that which I had gained as a child. At the request of the practitioner I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, at one of the Reading Rooms, bought a Christian Science Quarterly, found my dust-covered Bible, and began to read. This reading soon developed into earnest study as I progressed. In a very short time, with this study and help from the practitioner, I was completely healed of the trouble for which I had asked help; and a few days later I secured a position.

Previous to this experience I had been a commercial traveler for fifteen years; and during that time contracted stomach trouble, which I believed had become chronic and thought I should always have, as I had gone to doctors with that complaint for nearly ten years without any relief. A short time after the healing mentioned, I found that I was entirely relieved of the stomach trouble. All desire for liquor and tobacco left in the same manner. These were additional proofs of the thorough healing power of Christian Science, as I had not told the practitioner of the stomach trouble or of the desire for tobacco and liquor. I later found that Christian Science heals without the necessity of diagnosis. The healing did not stop here. I was soon able to pay off all my obligations; my wife was healed of illness by the aid of Christian Science; and instead of an outlook of sickness, poverty, suffering, and death, I now saw a future before me filled with health, comfortable living conditions, happiness, and a useful existence. I now sleep better, eat less, run faster, and enjoy life more than I could at the age of twenty-one. Is it any wonder that I am grateful to that which could work such a wonderful transformation?
