Christian Science does not deny the personality of God,...

Evening Courier and Reporter

Christian Science does not deny the personality of God, if by that term is meant infinite personality. According to the Bible, God is Spirit, and He must be worshiped "in spirit and in truth." Spirit is not and cannot be corporeal. Again, God is infinite, is all, and there is none beside Him. How can He, then, have an opposite called Satan or any other name? Hence, Christian Scientists consistently believe in one infinite God, who is good, and that He is All-in-all. Christian Scientists do not deny that evil and sin seem real to human sense. But how can that which is real ever be destroyed? Jesus said, "I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil;" and he went about destroying all kinds of sickness and sin. If every one in the world would stop sinning, would there be any sin? What, then, is sin or evil? Though seeming real to human sense, it cannot be an entity, but must be merely a false belief.

On the authority of the Bible, we learn that "now are we the sons of God;" and that God is Spirit, who made man in His own image and likeness. Therefore, it follows that man, the man God made, must be spiritual. Christian Science distinguishes between the human sense of man and God's man. On page 361 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," we read, "As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being."
