[Written for the Sentinel]

Await God's Giving!

Storm not the door of heaven with thy cry;
Strive not, in stress, to make Love's peace draw nigh;
Seek not to force the Giver of all good
To meet thy need, as thou believ'st He should.
Await God's giving!

Think not the human intellect can know
The mystery of godliness; but grow
In meekness and humility; and lo,
The restlessness will vanish in hope's glow.
Await God's giving!

He knows the light thine eye can now receive;
He knows the word thy sorrow to relieve;
He knows the inspiration thou dost need;
He giveth wisdom for each thought and deed.
Await God's giving!

Oh, wait, in glad expectancy and joy;
Acknowledge Him, nor let drear doubt annoy;
Then thou find in every hour and place,
His ever present loveliness and grace.
Await God's giving!
