When Christian Science teaching came to my notice, I...

When Christian Science teaching came to my notice, I was suffering, and had been suffering for several years, with an incurable organic disease, according to the diagnosis of the best physicians obtainable. A friend of ours left the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for a friend of his to read, also requesting that I should read it. In this way the truth began slowly to dawn upon my darkened senses. I met with violent opposition from my husband, who, however, later saw the fruits of this study. He also witnessed the healing of a friend whose condition was considered hopeless by physicians. We have had no other help for more than nine years than that given in the promises of God's Word, spiritually understood by the study of Christian Science. The Bible was a sealed book before I knew of this wonderful truth; but now it is proving as it has proved to be what our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, said it was,—the bread of life.

We have been able to make some demonstrations ourselves, but others seemed to need the help of practitioners, who always responded willingly and lovingly to our call. Our little son was healed of smallpox in a very severe form, with one treatment. Words are inadequate to express my real gratitude for some understanding of this wonderful truth; but I know every honest student has the privilege to prove every day that God is Love,—not hate, that man is spiritual and not material. These are just a few of the blessings received in the healing of so-called physical ailments, for which we are grateful; but for the spiritual uplift we are even more grateful.
