In loving gratitude for all the joy, activity, health, and harmony Christian Science has given me for many years, I am indeed glad to take advantage of this opportunity given me to express it. In the spring of 1897 I was earnestly seeking a positive, demonstrable religion that could give me proof of God as ever present with us. At this time, the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was placed in my hands by a friend, with the remark, "You will find your answer there."

During the many years since then, I have found my answer there, in the many proofs of healing for myself and family brought out according to the teachings of that book. A case of healing by mental surgery stands out strongly against a background of gratitude. A few years ago, I sustained a broken ankle of one foot, and a broken instep of the other foot, by falling off a pile of lumber. The thought came to me immediately, This is my opportunity to prove how God can heal broken bones in Christian Science, without surgery or any other material aid; so, trusting absolutely in Christian Science, I asked for treatments from a loving practitioner; and in less than one week I was able to wear my shoes and be out on the street, having been absent from but one of our church services.

During the working out of this demonstration of God's power to heal, the words of rejoicing from Isaiah were constantly in my thought, lifting it above the material sense of suffering, disabled feet to the joy of serving, by knowing "how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; ... that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!" This demonstration of mental surgery was brought out by absent treatment; and there are no injurious effects of the accident left with me. I rejoice and thank God for the physical freedom following this healing, but the positive proof of the dear Father's loving-kindness in healing all our diseases, by demonstrating perfect Principle by a perfect rule, I count the most beautiful experience I have ever known. My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for restoring this healing religion to the world is boundless; and my great desire is to prove my gratitude by consecrated service to our beloved cause of Christian Science.
