A tree is known by its fruit
Victoria Daily Colonist
A tree is known by its fruit. What is the immediate fruit of Christian Science? Thousands upon thousands of men and women to-day, with hearts purified, with homes made happy, with health and usefulness restored, are making the study of the Bible their daily delight. They are adopting its precepts, and practicing them in their thoughts and conduct towards God and their neighbor, where formerly they were actuated by self-interest and sin or sunk in apathy and worldliness, with little or no spiritual aspiration. Ages ago there were those who failed to comprehend Christ Jesus as he went about doing good, because he interpreted and obeyed the law of God otherwise than did the church of his day. Christian Scientists believe, as do other Christians, that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, and that he demonstrated the Christ, the Savior of the world. More than that, they believe that there is no other way to save or to be saved, no other way to heal or to be healed but the way he taught and pointed out for all to follow. Christian Scientists are striving to overcome the flesh and to obey the Scriptural command, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." To the extent that they are governed and armed with this same Mind, to that extent they experience that sense of life and peace which accompanies this Mind, and the natural results are the healing of sorrow, sickness, and sin. It might be well if the opponents of Christian Science remembered the advice of Gamaliel when the early Christians were condemned for healing and following Jesus in the way: "Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
