The spring of 1917 found me hampered by the effects...

The spring of 1917 found me hampered by the effects of nervous prostration, from which I had suffered in varying degrees of intensity for several years. I had spent months in sanitariums, had worn plaster casts, and had received a measure of help from kind physicians, who frankly were unable to show me how to rid myself of several unpleasant and painful features of the trouble. Finally, I turned to Christian Science as a last resort; instead of trying first to find the meaning of God's promises to heal. I studied our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and attended the church services; with the result that hope began to shine in my depressed mental state, and strength came in place of weakness and pain. I suddenly realized that if Principle could overcome one difficulty it could overcome all; and I gave up the use of medicines for other chronic ailments. Since then, annual attacks of sinusitis have been healed.

I had always been a student of the Scriptures, but the illumination thrown upon them through the "Key," as given by Mrs. Eddy, has been most helpful and satisfying.
