In 1907, when I first began the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, things of a religious nature did not mean very much to me; in fact, I thought I had no use for them, as my experience along that line had not been very satisfactory. I had not been reading very long, however, when the tobacco habit of about twenty years' standing was destroyed; also, the habit of using profane language was taken away; and the desire for beer and wine disappeared.

Since that time I have had many opportunities to apply the truth, as expressed in Christian Science, in the overcoming of physical ills; and I have found it an ever present help, one instance of which I will mention. While working in the shipyards at Portland, Oregon, just after the war, I was struck on the back of the left hand with a hot rivet, cutting a gash one and one-quarter inches long, which exposed the bones. At the time, my hands were covered with dirt and grease; and, as the orders were to take such cases to the plant hospital, I went to get it washed and covered up. The nurse insisted that I go to a physician and have some stitches taken in it; but I told her that I would be responsible for results, so, after repeated warnings, she let me go. I lost no time from work, had no inconvenience. In two days I had the bandage taken off, and the wound was healed, a small mark showing. Even that soon disappeared.

For the conquering of wrong habits and the healing of bodily ailments, I am truly grateful; but I am more thankful for the better understanding of God and His relation to man that I have gained from the study of the Bible, in connection with Mrs. Eddy's writings.
