Signs of the Times

The splendid powers of patriotism must be related to universal service. The sacred love of homeland must humanize our racial vision for the comprehension of everybody's native land. No nation liveth unto itself, and insularity is insecurity. Nations that fail to fraternize will fossilize. Fraternity is new security. Nothing material is invulnerable. The world has willed more fellowships and fewer warships.

"The great world statesman, President Smuts," said Mr. Hughes, "has declared that 'humanity has struck its tents, and is once more on the march.' How and whither it takes its way depends on the national mind in self-determination.
