I have noted the remarks of a correspondent in a recent issue of your paper in which he undertakes to classify Christian Science, which he admits he does not understand, with various forms of mental suggestion and faith cure. The vast difference between the Christian Science presentation of healing and that which is claimed for mental suggestion, is clearly illustrated as follows:—

Christ Jesus said of his system, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." On page 259 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy has written, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." Again, on page 275 are these words: "The starting-point in divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle."

Through Mrs. Eddy's writings she emphasizes the fact that to heal in Christian Science there must be spiritual preparation. This is accomplished through the practical and effective repentance which is based on a true understanding of God, faithful obedience to the requirements of infinite Love, and true humility under whatever suffering or opposition may come to the followers of Christ. There must be that love for God and all His children which alone can vitalize correct thinking and bestow the dominion mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis. Under such conditions, scientific, right thinking, and consequent Christian Science healing, is the actual manifestation of God's presence and power.
