Go-to-Church

As you request my opinion in connection with "America's Greatest Need," regarding the best way of reviving interest in church activity, I will briefly state the same.

It seems to me that Christ Jesus' words, "Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss," clearly diagnose the trouble. These words might be paraphrased into, Ye work and prosper not because ye work amiss. Speaking as a Christian Scientist I may say that our organizations do not feel the need of urging the people in any other way than that preached and practiced by Christ Jesus and recommended by him to his followers. This is known as a practical age; and this applies to religious activity as to all else. By this I mean that people demand and should be given something more than theory. Our Master said, "The kingdom of heaven is at hand;" and when the churches preach and prove this saying, they will certainly have no trouble in bringing the people within their quarters. In brief, it seems to me what the church now needs is to express more of Christly works; for certainly these are more convincing to-day, even as they were in the first century, than mere words. Without doubt Christianly deeds are more attractive to the churchgoer than are creeds.
