It was about ten years ago that I first went to a Christian Science service, on a Sunday evening. The thought that remained with me was, How wonderful if we can really take the great Bible promises literally! A year or two later I found at home a quantity of Journals and Sentinels that had been sent us by my aunt. I read these gradually and found also an old edition of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Looking back now I see how God does "bring the blind by a way that they knew not." I did not realize I was seeking till I knew I had found the truth and could never let it go. Later, in a time of great stress, it seemed not so much that I held to the truth as that Christian Science stood by me and by us all, preserving unity and strength and courage till the crisis was past.
I have also had many physical healings. From childhood I was much troubled with weak eyes and sometimes had to miss my school work. But I am now able to read for hours every night with no ill effects and if any trace of the old trouble ever appears it is always quickly overcome. As Christian Science prevents as well as heals disease it is not often that any physical trouble is able to develop so far as to have a name; but I have been healed of jaundice, very quickly of measles, and lately of an attack of quinsy. Not long ago a slice cut off the end of my finger through the nail joined on again nicely, and gave me no pain at all after the first few minutes and very little inconvenience. It did not interrupt my work in any way. One of the deepest experiences that the understanding of Christian Science has brought to me was the healing of grief.
Christian Science is giving me a love of order that I never used to know, greater honesty of purpose, and a motive and object in life that is unifying many interests and activities that used to interfere with each other. And of course as thought becomes purer whatever one's work is it grows more worth while. But the greatest blessing of all is the firm understanding Science brings that the basis of the universe is good, is Principle, so there cannot be such a thing as a hopeless situation, individual, national, or world wide. We know we can go forward with joy and confidence, for as we come into line with God's law, the just and perfect solution of every problem is as inevitable as the dawn.
