Among the Churches

Current Notes

Denver, Colo. —Members of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, dedicated their building at East Thirty-First Avenue and Elizabeth Street to-day [Nov. 20, 1921]. The building was formerly known as the Hess Methodist Episcopal Church. Until a few months ago it was occupied by Third Church on a rental basis. Through the assistance of other Denver Christian Science churches and the terms of Mrs. Eddy's will enough money was raised to purchase the building, which is entirely free from debt, making dedication services possible at this time.

Roanoke, Va.—The Christian Science church at the corner of Church Avenue and Fifth Street was dedicated at the regular Thanksgiving service, Nov. 26, 1921.

Christian Science activities first began in Roanoke as the direct result of healing work, and the first public service was held Christmas Day, 1909, on the second floor of the old World Building—although services in private homes were held before this time. In 1911 the increasing attendance required a move to more commodious quarters and the National Business College Hall was secured. It was the same year that reading rooms were opened to the public and these have ever since been maintained. They are now located at 706 Terry Building. After this time the organization made various moves, until the present site was purchased and the private house which then stood upon it was remodeled for services. About this time the organization formed itself into a church.
