[Written for the Sentinel]

Faithful Over Few Things

Is the common daily duty
Ofttimes dull, and irksome, too?
Do you think, in larger vineyards
And with greater work to do,
You could be a better soldier,
Bring more honor to the Cause,
Better serve your heavenly Father,
Draw more wand'rers to your doors?

Dear one, 'tis in doing nobly
All the common daily tasks,
We can prove that we are faithful,
Doing all the Father asks.
Loving thoughts, expressed in kindness,
Little lifts along the way,
All the cheery words of gladness
That you scatter through the day,
Do more honor to your Father,
Bring more Truth to blinded sight,
Than you'd think could be accomplished
By one little, shining light.

Then, remember, 'tis in shining
In the large or tiny place,
That we serve our heavenly Father,
And can prove His love and grace.
And the promise does not fail us:
If we're faithful o'er the few,
God will give us in His measure
Greater things than these to do.
