Until taking up the study of Christian Science, many...
Until taking up the study of Christian Science, many years had elapsed since I had read the Bible. I had occasionally attended a denominational church, but failed to find that which satisfied. While residing in America I heard of Christian Science, soon after which, as the result of the passing away of my husband, I returned to Switzerland. Disappointments caused me again to turn to Christian Science for help. I purchased the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and subscribed for Der Herold. Several years have passed since then, and these are my dearest books and my only reading matter. Since that time I have been self-supporting.
After wearing wearing a double truss for twenty years I was operated upon, but within half a year I was obliged to wear it again, and continued to wear it for thirteen years, until I visited a Christian Scientist one day. The truss was mentioned among other things, and she asked me to discard it. I returned home and did so immediately, and when at first I experienced pain I declared the truth as taught in Christian Science, and there have been no signs of the disease since. A few years ago when returning home from the country I was so cold that I went to bed immediately, but could not sleep. A high fever was manifested and I became dizzy when I attempted to arise. I denied this and declared the truth, but the difficulty was not overcome. For three days and three nights I lay in this condition, when a Christian Science practitioner was called. She treated me and when she left I was able to sleep. In the morning I arose, and the following day I was able to go to work.
One day when assisting my great-grandchild to descend the stairs, I slipped and fell forward to the floor with the child, striking my head against the wall with such force that I received a severe wound. I immediately held to the truth. The child was not injured in the least, and after ten minutes I experienced no further pain. On another occasion I was sewing in the home of a customer when I was stricken with such severe pain in my left elbow that I was unable to work. and prayed as taught in Christian Science, and upon my arising the following morning the pain had vanished. I am very grateful for these proofs of the ever presence of divine Love, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings have made the Bible so clear that all who will are able to understand it.
