For nearly eleven years before Christian Science found...
For nearly eleven years before Christian Science found me I had been a sufferer with stomach trouble. During this period I was constantly under the care of physicians, among them some of the best in this and another city. My condition grew steadily worse, and each attack of the trouble grew more violent and left me in a more weakened condition. I had been suffering with the last attack for about five weeks when I despaired of receiving any aid from the doctors and determined to try Christian Science. My wife assisted me to the door of a practitioner and left me to interview the gentleman alone. After some conversation I realized that whatever there was in the teaching of Christian Science, it was more than mere physical healing. In short I had a glimpse of the truth that makes man free.
At the close of that interview and treatment I made my way to a Christian Science reading room and spent several hours reading from the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. When I left I had in my possession a copy of this book, which I had purchased. I returned home walking the entire distance. That evening I ate what for me was a hearty meal, and after again reading from Science and Health for several hours, retired and enjoyed the first real sleep I had had for some weeks. I awoke the following morning, early, feeling good and strong, and went about my work as though I were a well man. My wife was convinced that I was on the way to recovery and prepared a good meal, of which I partook heartily. Toward evening I began to feel ill. I made my way home and again read from Science and Health. The practitioner who had treated me the preceding day called that night and spent an hour with me; he called again the following morning and found me up and dressed. I visited him the following morning, after which I had no more treatments for that condition. By constant reading and study for some months and the application of Truth as the understanding came to me, the trouble was finally overcome, and I can record a perfect healing.
Since that time my wife and I have been blessed with many healings, physical and otherwise, and this testimony is given in loving gratitude to God, to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioners who so lovingly ministered to me.—William A. Runyeon, Philadelphia, Pa.
