Christian Science is a constant blessing to me and to my...
Christian Science is a constant blessing to me and to my family. It is our help at all times, and always satisfies. It has healed me of hernia, severe headaches, intense fear of the dark and of thunder storms, of acute sensitiveness, of a predisposition to take cold. My husband was healed of a stomach trouble which was hereditary and of long standing.
Although our son has had whooping cough, measles, chicken pox, and scarlet fever, we have never needed to be quarantined; for each time, through the application of Christian Science, the disease has been so quickly overcome that we were saved the experience. At the time he was taken with scarlet fever, there was an epidemic of that disease in the town where we were then living. It seemed a desperate case, and it was a struggle for the writer to be willing to have the house quarantined if necessary. Finally she realized that Christian Scientists are taught to be obedient to state and national laws, and since Michigan required the quarantining of so-called contagious diseases, she called a physician. Before the physician came the writer saw that she was afraid of a name, and the true realization also came to her that God was greater than any name materia medica could give. With this all sense of fear and responsibility vanished, and she greeted the doctor with a light heart. When the physician examined the child he pronounced his throat to be in a terrible condition, and said he should be burning up with fever, but his temperature was only one degree above normal, and he added: "I do not understand his case to be scarlet fever when he has no fever, but call me in the morning." When morning came, a cheery voice called out to me, "Mother, I'm all right." Two days later the boy went to school as usual, perfectly well.
I am most grateful for having had the experience of class instruction. Each day discloses to me a new depth of gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that her wisdom has given us The Mother Church and its branch churches, with the privilege of membership, also the Church Manual and the Christian Science periodicals.
