For the innumerable blessings that have been brought to...
For the innumerable blessings that have been brought to view since I first began to see the light of Christian Science, I am deeply grateful. Our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, tells us in Science and Health (p. 3), "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks;" and truly to express my gratitude I am daily striving to manifest more the Life, Truth, Love, which is God.
The past seven years have been rich beyond description, —not as the world counts riches, happiness, or success, but rich in the healing, cleansing, purifying, uplifting fires of experience. The teachings of Christian Science plainly instruct us that nothing less than absolute obedience to unchanging Principle is capable of solving life's problems; that God's law, or as Paul puts it, "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus," must be our only standard of living. Notwithstanding the explicit, loving directions given us by our Leader, when the revelation of the Christ first came to me, in my great joy at having found the truth about God and man I sadly forgot my own duty and tried to live in the experience of those who had so lovingly shown the way of Life. In my new joy I did not realize the importance of turning away from the false pleasures as well as the false pains of material sense. Those earlier days in the study of Christian Science were most selfish—I was striving to gain all and give nothing; but Love was leading me into my own in spite of self and I was led through disappointment, failure, and suffering to serve not matter but Spirit. For every belief of pleasure in matter destroyed I am deeply grateful, and the peace and joy of abiding in Truth have speedily obliterated every sorrow and pain. I am rejoicing to-day in somewhat of the freedom promised by our Master and by Christian Science. The truth, when obeyed and rightly applied, has met every need.
Christian Science has healed me of a doubting mind, of love for riches, desire for constant amusement or excitement, false pride, resentment. It has taught me how to know and love God, and how to love my neighbor as myself, be he friend or foe. Every physical disorder has been overcome and harmony promptly restored by reading the textbook and declaring the truth, or by the kindly help of a practitioner.
