It is with a heart full of gratitude that I give this testimony of what Christian Science has done for me. Over ten years ago my sister returned from a visit to a neighboring city. As she was in a semi-invalid condition when she left, we were all astonished to see her happy, healthy appearance and to hear her say that she felt well. In a few days she began talking about Christian Science to me and said it had healed her. I knew absolutely nothing about this religion, and as I had very good health, did not pay much attention, but before the autumn was over I had taken up the study of Christian Science.

In February I left my home to enter a university a great many miles away. Until then I did not realize how much I had been leaning upon personality; but I soon learned to place my reliance in God and to know that He directs our steps. Through an error made by the person procuring my ticket I had to go from one depot to another in a large city late at night, but by realizing God's protection I made all needed changes without a mistake, though I was quite young, an inexperienced traveler, and my fear was very great. On arriving at school I felt that if I could meet another Christian Scientist I would be much happier, but Truth knows what is best for us. Several weeks later, in talking with a young man, Christian Science was mentioned. "So that's it," he said; "I could see you were thinking about something that made you very happy." He knew a lady who was a Christian Scientist and arranged a meeting the next day. Through her I met many more, but I had learned to look away from human personality and to see only God's reflection.

When two years old I had a severe attack of illness which left my throat very weak. Every winter thereafter I suffered almost constantly from throat trouble, and I submitted to four operations; but since coming into Christian Science all that has been changed. For the last six years I have been singing professionally and have given up only one engagement on account of this trouble. I have traveled in all sorts of weather without fear of any ill effects. At one time there were ulcers in my throat and for three days I could scarcely swallow, but I appeared every night in concert and sang as usual. On two occasions I have risen from a sick bed to fulfill engagements, and by knowing that God's equipment was perfect and unchanging I was able to perform my work. By realizing God's presence I was protected in a train wreck, also in a serious automobile accident. No matter what the material condition seems to be, divine Principle governs, and if I heed the counsel given in Psalms, "Be still, and know that I am God," I never fail to receive the blessing.
