In an editorial under the caption "Christian Science and the Flu," are unjust and untruthful statements regarding Christian Science, which tend to mislead readers. Christian Science is founded wholly on the Bible; therefore the Christian Scientist's understanding of God is precisely that which is plainly taught in the Scriptures; namely, that God is Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love; that He is omnipotent, present, and omniscient; that He created all and called it good, from which it follows that He cannot be the author of sin or sickness. This teaching is identical with that spiritual understanding which Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated and which made possible his mighty works. It is this same spiritual understanding which enables Christian Scientists to-day to heal disease, overcome sin, and replace discord with harmony by God's power alone, in strict obedience to the Master's commands and in absolute accord with his methods. Hundreds of thousands who have thus experienced healing through the application of Christian Science give grateful testimony of their restoration to health and happiness.

Since in its spiritual interpretation it is impossible for the Bible to be erroneous, Christian Scientists never find their understanding of God to be wrong. Those who comprehend Christian Science teaching always rely solely on the power of God. To do otherwise would dishonor God and discredit Christ Jesus, thus constituting that profession without practice which for centuries through creed and dogma has weakened applied Christianity and replaced in the so-called orthodox denominations the spiritual healing of the primitive church with material, man-made methods. Of such methods Mrs. Eddy, on page 134 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes: "Devoid of the Christ-power, how can they illustrate the doctrines of Christ or the miracles of grace? Denial of the possibility of Christian healing robs Christianity of the very element, which gave it divine force and its astonishing and unequalled success in the first century."

Closing places of Christian worship because of a so-called epidemic, at the behest of a medical autocracy, in the belief that God's power is less than that of an undiscovered germ, is so contrary to the teachings of the Founder of Christianity that Christian denominations should take legal steps necessary to maintain their constitutional rights. The Christian Scientists at Evanston, Illinois, are legally endeavoring to have the ban lifted, the churches opened, and their own and others' religious rights defined. That such action is well taken is shown in a widely published dispatch from Los Angeles, California, where a closing order issued against the churches by the board of health was recently declared by the court to be unreasonable, invalid, and unconstitutional. The proceeding which brought about the decision was initiated by the Christian Scientists, but the result redounds to the benefit of all denominations.
