Before beginning the study of Christian Science, I was...
Before beginning the study of Christian Science, I was very unhappy and suffered from many physical ailments believed to be hereditary. Repeated colds, hay fever with tendency to asthma, headache, stomach trouble, and rheumatism all came to me as they had to my mother. Through the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," with occasional help from a practitioner, I have been healed of all these so-called diseases. A few years ago a mental trouble developed, caused, it was thought, by an injury to the spine. Doctors did their best for me, but I was not cured. I was then sent to a hospital, where I received the kindest treatment and was given medicine only during the first few days. During the months there I was treated by a dear friend, a Christian Scientist, many miles away, and am fully convinced her understanding of God's law healed me.
Two years ago I again had to ask for help from a practitioner, owing to a weakness of the lower limbs. When rising from a chair I would have to stand a few minutes before daring to take a step, lest I fall. I was benefited spiritually, but stopped treatment before the physical healing took place. The Lesson-Sermons and the Christian Science literature were read eagerly, however, as I felt sure the healing would come, and it did suddenly some months later. Since then I have felt a sense of security, a joy and peace and trust in God as Love, as Life. I have had a clearer understanding of His protection, more love for the ninety-first psalm, which I had always thought beautiful, also for the twenty-third and the one hundred and twenty-first. These have cast out much fear that must have ruled me for years. The Monitor and the Hymnal have each helped in healing my thought. I am very grateful for all the authorized literature, and to the dear aunt who gave me my first copy of Science and Health and helped me to understand its wonderful teachings.
